Anbody doing the Ace hardware 20% off anything in your own bag sale today?
I thought about going with a big bag and getting a big bug out box, some outdoor locks, burglar bars, mason jar lids/rings, denatured alcohol.

Thanks for the heads up. Should bring my hiking bag and go just go down the canning isle. :)

Anyone know if Ace carries mason jars during the winter? I went to wallyworld the other day and they were completely out of stock.

Just picked some up a couple weeks ago, but thats down here in Florida, dont know if they have different stocking policies elsewhere. I havent seen waly-world carry jars in about a year aorund here. Target stopped about a year or two ago as well.

I'm always leery about these kind of sales. Ace is usually kind of high in their overall prices where I live.

Yup, Ace is usually more than 20% higher than other stores I shop at.

But they do carry a lot of those pretty hard to find things. I'd go but the nearest Ace is 75 miles away, definitely not worth the trip.

You're right about that, Phideaux. I will use Ace for plumbing needs and for parts for some of my older power equipment. Especially hoses.

Yer right about their prices, 20% off is prolly what they should be selling for anyhow. I do any shopping I can at my local ace however, but I know the owner and I give him crap if his prices are too high (he does the same to me lol).

It's hard to compete, for example my competition is West Marine for the most part. They can beat the crap out of vendors, which i can't do. If i tell paint distributor i'm not going to sell his stuff if he doesn't give me a better price he stops shipping paint to me. When West Marine does it, he knocks another 2% off. The only thing I can do is make sure I carry the things that they don't and sell them at a higher profit margin then the stuff I have to sell at next to no profit margin to keep people coming in the door. Luckily they have been increasing their margins lately which allows me to do the same.

Ace of course should have a bit of an advantage that I don't in that they are a franchise, however a great deal of that advantage is lost in franchise fees so I dunno.

Anyhow I guess that was my attempt to explain both why they charge more and why they have stuff home depot doesn't, sorry it was so long winded.

Well..went today. Bought jars, lids, toolbox, propane adapter line for cook stove to bottle. Went to Wal-mart afterward and price checked. No Jars at TN Walmart, fuel line and large toolbox cheaper at ACE after sale. But no great savings. Worth the trip to get jars when I needed them though. At least the guys there are ppl i went to school with and been working there 20 years. They said yeah..fill up that bag so i get a check next week. It worked out.
